The WhisperLift™………Shhhhh!

WhisperLift™

Palm Beach Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Anita Mandal developed the WhisperLift™ in 2007 as a less invasive facelift performed under local anesthesia in patients not wanting aggressive surgery, extensive anesthesia, prolonged recovery or the pulled or unnatural look sometimes seen with a facelift. Because of her skills as a top facelift surgeon, patients travel from all over Florida, across the country, and around the world for Dr. Mandal’s WhisperLift™. Click here to learn about Destination WhisperLift™. Combining time-honored methods with state-of-the-art techniques, this convenient, quick-recovery mini-facelift offers the benefit of fewer to no incisions, local anesthesia, and less downtime. With today’s active and busy lifestyles, many patients opt for the WhisperLift™ as an effective alternative. Results are very natural since skin and muscles are tightened or lifted, rather than pulled, to their more natural position.

WhisperLift™: A Custom-Tailored Mini-facelift

With age, the skin loses collagen and elastin and begins to sag. The underlying muscle, known as SMAS, is also subject to the effects of gravity. When patients with poor skin elasticity undergo facelift surgery, they can appear pulled or windblown. Additionally, excision of lateral SMAS, as in a facelift, can give the sides of the face a flattened or volume-deficient appearance over time. With the WhisperLift™, rather than being excised, SMAS is, when necessary, addressed in a more natural way to restore youthful facial contours. Because SMAS is not cut through and through, as with a facelift, there is also a reduced risk of facial nerve injury with the WhisperLift.

Benefits of WhisperLift™

  • Smaller incisions
  • Less invasive surgery
  • Local anesthesia without IV’s
  • Shorter operating times
  • Less downtime
  • Shorter recovery
  • Lower risk to the facial nerve
  • Lower overall risk
  • More Natural results

Types of WhisperLifts

The WhisperLift™ has evolved into 2 different types, each differing in the surgical approach which is customized to match the degree of correction desired. Both WhisperLifts can help avoid the pulled or windblown look seen from a facelift in the presence of poor skin elasticity.

While the WhisperLift™ costs less than a traditional facelift, its actual value lies, not in price, but in the advanced techniques used for smaller to no incisions, less downtime, and more natural results.

WhisperLift™ FAQ’s
How long does a WhisperLift™ last?

The WhisperLift™ can take 5-15 years off your face. If you look 10 years younger as a result of surgery, 15 years from now, you will continue to have aged, but can still look 10 years younger than had you not undergone surgery. While the effects of the WhisperLift™ can be considered fairly permanent, surgery does not halt the aging process as you continue to change with age. The bottom line is that there is no set time that any type of lift will last. How soon you have a procedure done again is a measure of how fast you age and everyone ages differently. Nonetheless, most patients can hold up well for 5-15 years before they consider additional treatment for the same concern. In summary, the youthful effect of surgery is preserved over time even though the aging process continues.

How does the WhisperLift™ differ from other of lifts such as the weekend facelift, lifestyle lift, lunchtime lift, liquid lift or vampire lift?

New, catchy names for facelifts spring up regularly. Separating fads from legitimate lifting procedures can be a challenge. While viable surgical procedures with less downtime do exist, quick fixes that promise significant results promote unrealistic patient expectations. It’s important to appreciate that surgery is surgery and there is always a period of healing and recovery.

Lunchtime Lift: This is also known as the Feather lift or Thread lift. In this procedure, a thread is inserted under the skin to lift sagging neck and jowl skin only. This is not a true facelift and Dr. Mandal does not perform this procedure due to its short-lived and unsatisfactory results.

Lifestyle Lift: The advertisements for this procedure claim that it is completed in an hour or less and showcase quite amazing “after” results. Dr. Mandal does not believe that a one hour mini facelift can give effective long lasting results in patients.

Liquid Lift: The Liquid Lift is a very effective procedure when used on the right patient. However, its name is deceptive since it is non-surgical. The Liquid lift consists of treatment with injectables to improve lines, grooves, creases and hollows in the face. It does not actually lift sagging jowl or neck tissue but can create the illusion of a lifted appearance. Your doctor must be careful to only promise what the Liquid Lift will truly deliver. Dr. Mandal performs the 4-D Liquid Face-lift quite often with a high level of patient satisfaction. The 4-D Liquid Face-lift is not, however, a substitute for surgery as it does not lift significant soft tissue sagging.

Weekend Facelift: This procedure can be ideal for patients with very minimal tissue laxity in their late 30’s and early 40’s. Most patients seeking facial rejuvenation may not benefit from this procedure since it is too minimal to give effective, lasting results.

Vampire Lift: This is another misleading name in that it is not a surgical facelift. It consists of mixing your own blood with other products and injecting this preparation into facial wrinkles and hollows. So far, it has received mixed reviews and does not actually lift or tighten facial sagging.

What are the risks of a WhisperLift™?

Every surgery, no matter how minimally invasive, has risks. Accepting this fact is an important part being a realistic patient. Medicine and surgery are not an exact science. Even a perfectly performed surgical technique on the ideal patient has risks. For each procedure, there are general and procedure-specific risks. General risks for any type of facelift include bleeding, infection, scarring, unsatisfactory result and reaction to anesthesia. While the specific risks for all facelifts include injury to the facial nerve, there is significantly lower risk with the WhisperLift™ compared to traditional facelifts. The WhisperLift™ is a very safe procedure and, compared to more aggressive facelifts, the risks are very low.

Can men have a WhisperLift™?

Dr. Mandal performs the WhisperLift™ on both men and women. In fact, many men who have reservations about having a traditional or full facelift are much more likely to have the WhisperLift™. While the rejuvenation goals of a WhisperLift™ are basically the same in both men and women, the approach in men is slightly different. Because of facial hair in men, incisions are placed to accommodate this pattern.

What is the best age to have a WhisperLift™?

There is no ideal age for any type of lift or rejuvenation procedure. The degree of soft tissue laxity correlates more with the timing of surgery than your actual age. The majority of my patients who undergo a WhisperLift™ are in their late 40’s to 70’s. I have, however, performed facelifts on patients as young as 37 years of age. Each person is different and ages differently. Younger patients who are not yet candidates for a traditional facelift can have the WhisperLift™ for mild sagging. Being pro-active with early intervention can help maintain a natural look and minimize dramatic or sudden changes to your appearance. Mature patients with moderate sagging of the cheek, jowl and neck also undergo the WhisperLift™. However, patients who have waited too long and allowed for significant changes from age to set in may require a more aggressive facelift.

What is it like to have a WhisperLift™ with local anesthesia?

Are the results of a WhisperLift™ natural looking?

Dr. Mandal’s patients are consistently impressed with how natural looking her results are. A more defined jawline and a tighter neckline is universally youthful looking for nearly every patient. With her years of experience as a Facial Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Mandal combines her technical expertise and artistic skill with the latest techniques to give the most natural, long lasting results.

Can the WhisperLift™ be combined with other procedures?

Yes! The WhisperLift™ is commonly performed at the same time as neck liposuctionupper and lower eyelid surgery as well as platysmaplasty (tightening of muscle bands under the chin). Injectable fillers can be used for the finishing touch to treat fine lines and facial hollows which cannot be corrected by surgery.

Can I still have the WhisperLift™ if I previously had a mini-facelift or facelift?

Yes. Nearly half of Dr. Mandal’s patients undergoing the WhisperLift™ have had a previous lifting procedure by another surgeon.
