WhisperLift™ Palm Beach Gardens

Dr. Mandal invented the WhisperLift™ in 2007 after noticing how many of her patients had busy lifestyles and couldn’t afford the downtime associated with a traditional facelift or mini-facelift. When combined with the fear of having an aggressive facelift procedure, the WhisperLift™ has quickly became a popular less invasive option. While still a surgical procedure, the Whisper Lift involves fewer incisions, is performed under local anesthesia (without IV’s) and has a shorter recovery.

Dr. Mandal offers 3 types of Whisper Lifts:
Traditional WhisperLift™ involves making hidden incisions behind the ear for neck sagging. For the lower face, hidden incisions are made in the natural crease in front of the ear. These incisions are smaller than the more extensive incisions of a facelift. Local anesthesia is administered to fully numb the treated areas for a comfortable, pain-free surgical experience. A head dressing is placed for 1-2 days. Stitches are removed beginning at one week The Laser WhisperLift™ involves making 1cm micro-incisions under the chin and within the earlobe crease and passing a tiny surgical laser tip under the skin to treat the undersurface of the skin. Precision Tx or Face Tite are the lasers used. The laser tip is down-fired to break up fat and up-fired to tighten sagging skin.Skin tightening occurs by direct, aggressive collagen stimulation of the undersurface of the skin. Both the neck and jowls can be treated this way. A head dressing is placed for 1-2 days. Stitches are removed at 7 days. Many patients can return to work as soon as 5 days. Immediate results are typically seen after dressing removal, but get even better over the 6 months following surgery.

The Laser WhisperLift™ with Platysmal Treatment includes the use of Ellevate technolology to transect and tighten the platysma muscle, also known as the vertical neck bands in the anterior neck. Ellevate also allows a more well-defined jaw and neckline. This type WhisperLift™ involves making micro-openings in the skin that are self-healing and do not require suture placement or removal. There are typically no visible incisions.  A head dressing is worn for several days.

While the WhisperLift™ costs less than a traditional facelift, it is important to appreciate that it’s added value lies in using advanced techniques to offer smaller incisions, less downtime and more natural results. All 3 types of Whisper Lifts can help avoid the pulled or windblown which a patient may get from a facelift if they have poor skin elasticity.

The WhisperLift™ is a versatile surgical procedure for the treatment of sagging skin in the neck and jowls. Results are very natural since skin is tightened and lifted to its more natural position.

How do I know if I am a good candidate for the WhisperLift™?

Best candidates for the WhisperLift™ have good bone structure, mild to moderate laxity of soft tissue and realistic expectations.

What makes the WhisperLift™ different from a traditional facelift?

Both the SMAS muscle as well as the skin are addressed in the Traditional WhisperLift™. The skin is addressed in the Whisper Lift whereas the platysmal muscle and skin are addressed when the Ellevate technology is added. When Dr. Mandal tightens the underlying SMAS muscle, she artfully redrapes the overlying skin and removes only excess skin. This approach avoids the overpulled, “wind blown” look. In a traditional facelift, the muscle(SMAS) is cut all the way through and then tightened; this approach not only compromises muscle integrity but also increases risk of injury to the facial nerve. With the WhisperLift™, the SMAS is tightened, rather than cut, using a special plication technique. The SMAS is also repositioned by securing it to specific fixation points. This approach preserves muscle integrity, reduces the of risk facial nerve injury, lessens downtime and gives a very natural result.

Where are the incisions placed in the WhisperLift™?

The incisions are strategically hidden in the wrinkles and natural creases around your ears. Unlike a traditional facelift, the incisions are much smaller or not visible at all depending on the type of Whisper Lift. There is also less chance of hair loss or shifting of your hairline. Once fully healed, patients can comfortably wear their hair short or tie it back without being concerned that the incisions will be obvious.

Is the muscle also tightened or is it just the skin that is pulled during the WhisperLift™ procedure?

Both the muscle as well as the skin are addressed in the Laser WhisperLift™. Dr. Mandal tightens the underlying SMAS muscle first, artfully redrapes the overlying skin and removes only excess skin. This approach avoids the overpulled, “wind blown” look. In a traditional facelift, the muscle(SMAS) is cut all the way through and then tightened; this approach not only compromised muscle integrity but also increases risk of injury to the facial nerve. How long does a WhisperLift™ last?

The WhisperLift™ can take 5-15 years off your face. If you look 10 years younger as a result of surgery, 15 years from now, you will have aged but can still look 10 years younger than had you not undergone surgery. While the effects of the WhisperLift™ can be considered fairly permanent, surgery does not halt the aging process as you continue to change with age. The bottom line is that there is no set time that any type of facelift will last. How soon you have a procedure done again is a measure of how fast you age and everyone ages differently. Nonetheless, most patients hold up well for 5-15 years before they consider additional treatment to the same area. In summary, the youthful effect of surgery is preserved over time even though the aging process continues.

How does the WhisperLift™ differ from other types of lifts such as the Weekend facelift, Lifestyle Lift, Lunchtime Lift, Liquid Lift, Vampire Lift?

New, catchy names for facelifts spring up regularly. Separating fads from credible facelift procedures can be a challenge. While viable surgical procNew, catchy names for facelifts spring up regularly. Separating fads from credible facelift procedures can be a challenge. While viable surgical procedures with less downtime do exist, quick fixes that promise significant results with no disruption to one’s lifestyle promote unrealistic patient expectations. It’s important to appreciate that surgery is surgery and there is always a minimal period of healing and recovery afterwards.

Lunchtime Lift: This is also known as the Feather lift or Thread lift. In this procedure, a thread is inserted under the skin to lift sagging neck and jowl tissue. This is not a true facelift and Dr. Mandal does not perform this procedure due to its short lived and unsatisfactory results.

Lifestyle Lift: The advertisements for this minifacelift claim that it is completed in an hour or less and showcases quite amazing “after” results. Dr. Mandal does not believe that a one hour mini facelift can give effective long lasting results in patients who are strong candidates for a traditional facelift.

Liquid Lift: The Liquid Lift is a very effective procedure when used on the right patient. However, its name is deceptive since it is not surgical. The Liquid lift consists of treatment with injectables to improve lines, grooves, creases and hollows in the face. It does not actually lift sagging jowl or neck tissue. Your doctor must be careful to only promise what the Liquid Lift will truly deliver. Dr. Mandal performs the Liquid Lift quite often with a high level of patient satisfaction. The Liquid Lift is not, however, a substitute for surgery as it does not lift significant soft tissue sagging.

Weekend Facelift: This procedure can be ideal for patients with very minimal tissue laxity in their late 30’s and early 40’s. Most patients seeking facial rejuvenation may not benefit from this procedure since it is too minimal to give effective, lasting results.

Vampire Lift: This is another misleading name in that it is not a surgical facelift. It consists of mixing your own blood with other products and injecting this preparation into facial wrinkles and hollows. So far, it has received mixed reviews and does not lift or tighten facial sagging.

What are the risks of the WhisperLift™?

Every surgery, no matter how minimally invasive, has risks. Accepting this fact is an important part being a realistic patient. Medicine and surgery are not an exact science. Even a perfectly performed surgical technique on the ideal patient has risks. For each procedure, there are general and procedure-specific risks. General risks for any type of facelift includes bleeding, infection, scarring, unsatisfactory result as well as reaction to anesthesia. While the specific risks for all facelifts include injury to the facial nerve, there is significantly lower risk with the WhisperLift™ compared to traditional facelifts. Fortunately, the WhisperLift™ is a very safe procedure and, compared to more aggressive facelifts, the risks are very low.

Can men have a WhisperLift™?

Dr. Mandal commonly performs the WhisperLift™ on both men and women. In fact, many men who have reservations about having a traditional or full facelift are much more likely to have the WhisperLift™. While the rejuvenation goals of a WhisperLift™ are basically the same in both men and women, the approach in men is slightly different. Because of the facial hair in men, the incisions are placed to accommodate this pattern.

What is the best age to have a WhisperLift™?

There is no ideal age for any type of facelift or rejuvenation procedure. The degree of soft tissue laxity in the area of your face and neck has more to do with the timing of a facelift than your actual age. The majority of my patients who undergo a WhisperLift™ are in their late 40’s to 70’s. I have, however, performed facelifts on patients as young as 37 years. Each person is different and ages differently. Younger patients who are not yet candidates for a traditional facelift can have the WhisperLift™ for very mild sagging. Being pro-active with early intervention can maintain a natural look and minimize dramatic or sudden changes in your appearance. Mature patients with moderate sagging of the cheek, jowl and neck can also have the WhisperLift™. On the other hand, patients who have waited too long and allowed for significant changes from age to set in may require an aggressive facelift.

What can I expect during my recovery?

Postoperative recovery from the WhisperLift™ is minimal. The night after surgery is the most uncomfortable due to the compression dressing that is typically removed within 24 hours. Thereafter, most patients feel tightness or pulling sensation (which is actually good) that is controlled with prescription medication. By the end of one week after surgery, most swelling and tenderness is usually limited to the incision areas near the ears and can be easily be covered by your hair. Swelling can be further minimized by keeping the head in a slightly elevated position when sleeping. It is also important to avoid direct sunlight and aggressive physical activity. The results of surgery can be seen immediately following surgery, however, most patients feel they are ready to face the world within 4-7 days.

Does Dr. Mandal perform other types of facelifts?

es! In addition to the WhisperLift™ which is a quick recovery facelift, Dr. Mandal also performs minifacelifts, traditional or standard facelifts, jowl lifts, neck lifts as well as non-surgical lifts. Each patient ages differently so is unique in their aging concerns. The most suitable type of lift is best determined during a thorough consultation with Dr. Mandal.

What if I prefer to have my procedure under IV sedation?

While the WhisperLift™ is most commonly performed under local anesthesia with an oral sedative, it can also be done using IV sedation or general anesthesia. The choice of anesthesia depends on your medical history and your unique circumstances.

What is it like to have a WhisperLift with local anesthesia?

Are the results of a WhisperLift natural looking?

Dr. Mandal’s patients are consistently impressed with how natural looking her results are. A more defined jawline and a tighter neckline is very youthful looking for nearly any patient. With her years of experience as a facial specialist, Dr. Mandal combines her surgical expertise and artistic skill with the latest techniques to give the most natural, long lasting results.

Can the WhisperLift™ be combined with other procedures?

Yes! The WhisperLift™ is commonly performed at the same time as neck liposuctionupper and lower eyelid surgery as well as platysmaplasty (tightening of muscle bands under the chin). Injectable fillers can be used for the finishing touch to treat finer lines and facial hollows that cannot be corrected by surgery. Whether you are a candidate for these additional procedures can be determined by your plastic surgeon during the consultation.

Can I still have the WhisperLift™ if I previously had a minifacelift or facelift?

Yes. Nearly half of Dr. Mandal’s patients undergoing the WhisperLift™ have had a previous lifting procedure by another surgeon.
