Palm Beach Plastic Surgeon Dr. Anita Mandal, a specialist in minimally invasive facial rejuvenation, uses her artistic skill and technical expertise to give highly satisfying results with Juvéderm®. As a sought-after Expert Injector, she personally performs all Juvéderm® treatments on her patients.
As a temporary injectable, Juvéderm® is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler for treating lines, wrinkles, deep folds, and hollows. Like Restylane®, it is available in various forms but comes in fewer types than Restylane®.
As an Expert Injector, Dr. Mandal utilizes advanced layering techniques with Juvéderm® to improve:
- Deep nasolabial or “parentheses” lines
- Marionette or “puppet” lines
- Ptotic, sagging mouth corners
- Lip definition at the vermilion edges
- Thin lips with volume loss
- Lip lines and lipstick bleed
- Hollow cheeks
- Weak chin or jawline
Types of Juvéderm®
Many patients are unaware of the differences between the various forms of Juvéderm® which differ in molecular size and amount of cross-linking both of which determine:
- Injection depth
- Area of concern treated
- Lifting potential
- Volume restoration
JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™ XC is injected deeper to restore volume to depleted cheeks and for chin augmentation to improve the chin shape and profile. It has been shown to last up to 2 years, but regular touch-up treatments typically every 6-12 months are used to give a 2 year result.
JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC (Volift) can soften moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. It is longer-lasting Juvéderm product and can last up to 18 months. However, maintenance treatments at 6 to 9 month intervals are typically needed to retain the same look following initial injection.
JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® XC injectable gel is specifically designed for plumping lips and for fine lines around the mouth with results that can last up to one year.
JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC injectable gel is for restoring fullness to the lips and the treatment of perioral wrinkles.
JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is the most dense of the Juvéderm® fillers. It can give lifting, volume and definition.
As a temporary filler, Juvéderm® XC can last 6 months to 2 years, depending on the type of Juvéderm® selected, the facial area treated, the degree of aging, and the number of maintenance treatments. It is important to appreciate that when a temporary filler is said to last up to one year, one can typically expect 50% of injected filler to be resorbed from the body 6 – 7 months later. For instance, if 2 Juvéderm® syringes are used to soften your smile lines for a 1-year result, half of the Juvéderm® is expected to be gone in 6 – 7 months. Instead of waiting the full year to have another 2 syringes, it’s better to re-treat the same area with 1 syringe, or half the amount, at the halfway point of around 6 months. This practical maintenance approach allows you to maintain your youthful look, rather than giving the smile lines a chance to deepen again, without increasing your budget.
Dr. Mandal personally performs all Juvéderm® injections on her patients instead of using a nurse or physician assistant. The XC in Juvéderm® stands for the presence of lidocaine numbing agent for a more comfortable treatment experience. Dr. Mandal uses a very tiny needle formulated for Juvéderm® injections. Treatments take 5 to 30 minutes.
Patients with a history of cold sores should notify our office well in advance of treatment to determine if anti-viral prophylaxis is necessary. Patients allergic to lidocaine or similar anesthetics should also notify the office in advance so we can have the correct Juvéderm® on hand for your treatment. Patients on blood thinners may go off of them only with permission of their internist or cardiologist.
The results of Juvéderm® are visible immediately. Swelling is usually mild and can take several days to resolve. Most of Dr. Mandal’s patients have no downtime with bruising being rare. Makeup can be worn immediately after treatment with the resumption of most routine activities right after injection.
Juvéderm® can last anywhere from 6 months to 18 months depending on how fast a given patient resorbs it, the area treated and the type and amount of Juvéderm® used.
For patients desiring added protection from the risk of bruising, we offer the Ihance post-injection serum with a patented TriHex technology to accelerate recovery as well as minimize bruising and swelling.
As an Expert Injector, Dr. Mandal commonly combines Juvéderm® with other fillers, lasers, Botox®, and surgery. Popular combination therapies to produce enhanced results include:
- Micro-botox with Juvéderm® for static and dynamic lip wrinkles
- The layering of different Juvéderms to treat nasolabial folds and marionette lines
- The layering of different Juvéderms to restore volume loss of cheeks
- Genius™ RF / Infini™ RF plus Juvéderm® for deep lines
- Bellafill®, the 5-year filler layered with Juvéderm® for deep and superficial nasolabial lines
- Upper eyelid lift combined with Juvéderm® for tear trough hollows under the eyes
